Best Paper Award-1st International Conference on Engineering Structures

The department is pleased to share that our Ph.D. student, Hanmo Wang was honored with the Best Paper Award for his paper titled “Physics-Informed Graph Neural Networks for Predicting Mechanical Responses in Hollow Concrete Structures with Clay-Filled Morphed Honeycomb Cavities” at the 1st International Conference on Engineering Structures (https://www.ices2024.cn/) held in Guangzhou, China.

It is noteworthy that the conference presents two distinct awards: the Best Paper Award and the Best Student Paper Award. The latter is exclusively for students, whereas the Best Paper Award sees a wider range of competitors, including senior researchers, and academic professionals. Impressively, Hanmo won the Best Paper Award as a student, surpassing expectations by competing with many more experienced researchers. As the first author, Hanmo accepted the award on behalf of the Department of the Built Environment team, led by Dr. Alexander Lin, alongside their industry partners from Arup Singapore and DP Engineers. The award was presented by Prof. Jie Yang, the Editor-in-Chief of Engineering Structures.

Dr Alexander Lin brought a group of students, including Hanmo, to participate in this conference which was organized by the respected journal, Engineering Structures (CiteScore=10.2, which ranked top 8% in Civil and Structural Engineering) and provided a valuable platform for sharing and discussing the latest advancements in the field.

The department is proud of the achievements of our faculty and students and wish you all the best in your further research!
