Associate Professor Yuan Chao from the Department of Architecture has been honoured with the Timothy Oke Award 2025 for his research in urban climate science, urban planning, and architecture. His work on climate-sensitive urban design and leadership in interdisciplinary initiatives are shaping sustainable and resilient cities. The award, presented by the International Association for Urban Climate, recognises rising leaders making significant impacts in urban climatology.

Prof Yong Kwet Yew appointed chairman of MOF’s Development Projects Advisory Panel

Prof Yong Kwet Yew has been appointed as chairman of the Development Projects Advisory Panel (DPAP) under the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for a three-year term, from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2028.
The DPAP plays a critical role in supporting the assessment of large-scale public infrastructure and building projects in Singapore. As chairman, Prof Yong will lead the panel in providing independent evaluations and expert guidance to help ensure that public development projects are well-designed, cost-effective, and aligned with broader national objectives.
This appointment recognises his deep expertise and continued contributions to infrastructure planning and development. Congratulations to Prof Yong on this significant role! We look forward to the impactful contributions of this work.
Research Team from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering awarded NVIDIA Research Grant for robotics & Edge AI

We are pleased to announce that a research team from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS has received a prestigious NVIDIA Award for their project, “Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Safe Locomotion with Differentiable Simulation.”
Led by Assistant Professor Fan Shi, with co-principal investigators Dr Xu Yuecong Xu and Dr Meng Yee (Michael) Chuah (Senior Scientist, A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research), the team addresses a key challenge in robotics — enabling robust, adaptive locomotion in real-world environments such as elderly care and domestic assistance.
Their approach combines embodiment-aware transformer frameworks with NVIDIA’s differentiable simulation platform, Warp, enabling scalable and efficient learning of resilient motor skills in complex environments.
As part of the award, the team will receive GPU and cloud computing resources valued at approximately US$40,000, supporting further advancements in intelligent, fault-tolerant robotic systems.

Senior Research Fellow Dr Mrutyunjaya Sahani, receives Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Power Electronic Converters for Transportation and Energy Applications (PECTEA 2025)
Congratulations to Dr Mrutyunjaya Sahani, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, on receiving the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Power Electronic Converters for Transportation and Energy Applications (PECTEA 2025), held at IIT Bhubaneswar.
His award-winning paper, “Online Corrective Contingency Analysis for Floating Green Microgrid Using Holomorphic Embedding Method and Extreme Learning Machine,” proposes a novel AI-integrated framework to enhance real-time contingency response and operational resilience in modern microgrid systems.
This achievement highlights CDE NUS Electrical and Computer Engineering's continued contributions to global research in sustainable energy systems, smart grids, and semiconductor technologies.
