FACULTY AND STAFF UPDATES
Ms Sari Atiqa Binte Ramli, Instructor, Division of Industrial Design
Sari Atiqa joined the Division of Industrial Design (DID) as an Instructor. She works closely with the Design Thinking programme team in content creation and facilitating the Design Thinking workshops.
Dr Qin Hanzhang, Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management
Dr Qin Hanzhang joined the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering & Management as an Assistant Professor in July 2023. Prior to joining NUS, Dr Qin spent one year in Amazon Services LLC as a Postdoctoral Scientist ā€“ a newly launched postdoc program by Amazon. Dr Qin graduated from MIT with a PhD in Computational Science and Engineering and 2 Masters (EECS and Transportation). Dr Qin has also been awarded a B.S. in Mathematics (2015) & B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering (2015) from Tsinghua University. His research interests reside in Methodological: Stochastic Control, Statistical Learning and Reinforcement Learning with applications in Supply Chain Optimization, Revenue Management, and Transportation Systems.
Dr Jing Yan, Assistant Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Dr Jing Yan joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 2023. Before joining NUS, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Harvard University, USA. Dr Jing received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Houston in 2017. His research focuses on the development of aqueous-soluble electro-active redox molecules used in electrochemical flow systems for long-duration energy storage and CO2 capture. Over the last few years, he helped establish new research directions in aqueous organic flow battery field, including in situ continuous-flow electrosynthesis of active molecules in flow batteries to lower mass production cost in situ electrochemical regeneration of active molecules to extend the lifetime of flow batteries. Dr Jing has published 30 peer-reviewed articles and written one book chapter. He earned the Presidential Fellowship in 2013 and the Presidential Young Professorship in 2023.
Dr Sasani Jayawardhana, Lecturer, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Sasani joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as a Lecturer in August 2023. Before joining NUS, she was a senior lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. Sasani received her PhD from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, working on developing nanostructured sensor elements on optical fiber probes for remote sensing applications using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. During her postdoctoral years, Sasani was central in establishing the ALOeKA research facility at the University of Colombo, which brought together areas of artificial intelligence and spectroscopic techniques for applications in the materials sciences.
Miss Low Pui Ying Janice, Assistant Manager, Department of Architecture
Janice joined the Department of Architecture (DOA) in July 2023 as Assistant Manager. She has eight years of working experience in the IHL industry, involving various aspects of student and curriculum administration. Janice is the sub-team Lead overseeing academic administrative matters relating to the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Master of Architecture programmes in DOA.
Ms Fatin Sharafana Binte Mohd Haniff, Senior Executive, Department of Biomedical Engineering
Fatin Sharafana joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering as a Senior Executive on 15 August 2023. She supports the BME department in facilitating the business development of the bGood programme and serves as teaching Support for undergraduate courses affiliated with the bGood programme in BME.
Mr Jonathon Leong Wen Hao, Senior Executive, Department of Biomedical Engineering
Jonathon joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering as a Senior Executive on 15 August 2023. He oversees the daily operations at the Community Co-iHub, mentoring project groups and providing teaching support for undergraduate courses affiliated with the BME bGood programme.
Mr Haw Chih Hou (Joel), Management Assistant Officer, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Joel joins the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) as Management Support Officer on 22 August 2022. With prior experience in higher learning institutions, including significant contributions to NUS's Office of Finance and a subsequent role in the Faculty of Law, Joel brings a wealth of expertise. At CEE, he manages diverse corporate administrative tasks such as website upkeep, office resource procurement, and facilitating departmental events
Ms Ng Lay Choo Karen, Senior Executive, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Karen has years of experience in the education sector. Prior joining the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, she played a pivotal role at ACM Biolab, offering crucial administrative support to finance and HR functions. In her new role, Karen will be focusing on supporting the departmentā€™s MSc Programme and other teaching administrative matters.
Ms Woo Mei Yin, Laboratory Technologist, Dean's Office (EDIC)
Mei Yin joined the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC) as a Laboratory Technologist. She will support students in their projects and manage prototyping workshops. Prior to joining EDIC, she worked at CDE Finance as VIM Verifier for ECE, ISEM and DID from May 2021 to July 2023.
