Master of Architecture graduateĀ Ye Thu's short film, Sundays In-Between, was selected for the Singapore Shorts Film Festival by the Asian Film Archive. The film complements her thesis, supervised by Assistant Professor Lilian Chee and was screened at the Oldham Theatre on 20 August.

Sundays In-Between reimagines Peninsula Plazaā€™s liminal spaces on the Burmese communityā€™s off days. By overlaying footage shot on Sundays, the film carves out an architecture that works through opportunistic acts of invention, articulating a quiet yet political aesthetic and revealing what it means to thrive in spaces unintended for cultural difference.

Singapore Shorts is an annual showcase organised by the Asian Film Archive (AFA) to celebrate the boldness and diversity of local short films each year. Selected by a panel of respected film professionals, Singapore Shorts ā€™23 provides the widest showing of short film titles in Singapore.

Mind Peek is a project developed under Museum Alive, a joint studio offered by the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC), the Division of Industrial Design, and the Department of Architecture seeks to push the boundaries of museum experiences. This AI-powered exhibit can identify emotions in real-time. It comprises a visual display of interactive-coloured orbs manifested from our emotions, influencing the experiences of others around us. The exhibit provides a tranquil environment for visitors to unwind and reflect on their well-being and emotions.

We are proud that Mind Peek was selected to be presented as the first collaboration with the Singapore Art Museum as part of its new signature wellbeing programme - SAM Art Dose!

The concept was first developed by the interdisciplinary students across the programmes and further developed into the final prototype by the Mind Peek team that includes Janessa Song Mun Yoong and Ng Yu Zhe from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Joanne Chandini Joseph and Lucas Tay Hao Yang from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Class 2023, and Srikesh Sundaresan a Year 4 student from the Division of Industrial Design.

The Museum Alive interdisciplinary teaching team consists of Associate Professor Khoo Eng Tat from EDIC, Assistant Professor Clement Zheng and Associate Professor Yen Ching-Chiuan from Industrial Design, and Associate Professor Thomas Kong Kwok Hoong fromĀ Architecture.

We want to congratulate Kia Khee, one of our final-year students, and the STEP Youth Crew for their victory in The FINALS International Dance Competition held in Braunschweig, Germany. Kia Khee led her team to a glorious victory, clinching 1st place in the Professional category and receiving a full standing ovation from the 2,500 audience members. The team beat 26 adult teams from Germany, Brazil, Poland, Netherlands, and Switzerland with an exceptional score of 96/100. Kia Khee has been working tirelessly for the past few months, guiding her juniors and managing the logistics for the trip, all while keeping up with her academic commitments. Her dedication and hard work in pursuing her passion for dance have made our department immensely proud.
