Associate Professor Mario Lanza Martinez
Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Associate Professor Mario is an IEEE Fellow and a leading figure in the field of nanoelectronics. His research focuses on the use of novel nanomaterials to improve the performance and reliability of electronic devices, integrated circuits, and functional microchips. Before joining NUS, he worked in multiple top universities, such as Stanford University, Peking University, Soochow University, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, among others. He has led several large research projects and has occupied research management positions, such as Deputy Dean of Research at the Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He works in collaboration and acts as consultant for multiple semiconductor companies and top publishers. He wishes to contribute to further increase influence of Singapore in the semiconductors industry, and to position Singapore as a strategic hub in terms of microchip manufacture, metrology tools development, and capable manpower education.
Associate Professor Zhen Bo
Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Associate Professor Zhen Bo is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Physics from Tsinghua University in 2008, and his Ph.D. in Physics from MIT in 2014. Between 2014 and 2017, he was a postdoctoral researcher at MIT. He started his own research group at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2024. His main research topics include: (1) new topological phases of light in driven nonlinear optical systems; (2) fast and scalable control and readout of Si quantum dot spin qubits; and (3) new materials and metamaterials for nonlinear photonic integrated circuits and optoelectronic applications, such as electro-optical modulators, infrared light detectors, and quantum-limited parametric amplifiers.
Dr Jang Moonhyung
Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr Moonhyung Jang joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as Assistant Professor in August 2024. Moonhyung received the BSc (summa cum laude, top honour) and PhD degrees in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2014 and 2021, respectively. After earning his PhD, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University and became part of Prof. Boris Murmann’s Mixed-Signal Group as a postdoctoral research fellow. His current research at NUS aims to develop: 1) high-performance data converters for future wireless communication systems; 2) high-bandwidth, single-cell resolution implantable neural interface ICs for future smart BCI systems; 3) smart sensor interfaces and various high-performance mixed-signal integrated circuits and systems.
Ms Cheah Wei Ling
Teaching Assistant, NUS Cities, Dean's Office
Wei Ling received her Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) in 2023, and Master of Science (Biomedical Engineering) at NUS. Throughout her academic journey, she has built a strong foundation in biomedical engineering, complemented by hands-on experience in teaching and research. Her background in biomedical innovation, education, and research has reinforced her belief in multidisciplinary collaborations to address real-world issues. Her research interests include design thinking and community healthcare.
Mr Ko Tin Yue Roger
Teaching Assistant, NUS Cities, Dean's Office
Roger obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Yale-NUS College. He was an interdisciplinary software engineer from Singapore and Japan. Previously, he was an e-commerce engineer and a video games illustrator in Tokyo. He loves exploring cities on foot, engaging in conversations with strangers and studying 19th-century academic art.
Ms Phoebe Chua Lin'er
Teaching Assistant, NUS Cities, Dean's Office
Phoebe recently graduated from NUS with a Master of Architecture and a Minor in Geosciences. Her prior involvement in WOHA’s Punggol Digital District and the National Parks Board’s Villa Verde Park extension, which involved environmental design, community engagement, and project management, has reinforced her belief in the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for addressing urban challenges. She looks forward to her role that integrates research, education, and advisory, and she is eager to explore urban systems by bridging natural and sociocultural dimensions.
Mr Thomas Kent Bean
Teaching Assistant, NUS Cities, Dean's Office
Thomas graduated from Yale-NUS College this year with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Urban Studies. He is an urbanist with interests in topics such as innovation ecosystems, sustainable development, transportation, and public health. His undergraduate capstone project explored innovation networks among traditional Chinese medicine organisations in Singapore. He hopes to share his passion for understanding the complexity of cities with others at CDE.
Ms Ng Xin Le Erin
Teaching Assistant, Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC), Dean's Office
Erin joined the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC) as a Teaching Assistant for the MSc in Engineering Design & Innovation. She is a NUS graduate, and she majored in Biomedical Engineering and the Innovation and Design Programme (iDP). She was previously a design assistant in the Central Workshop. She has a passion for helping communities and aims to impact users by solving problems through innovative solutions.
Mr Zhu Hongjiao Graham
Teaching Assistant, Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC), Dean's Office
Graham is a hands-on engineer and serial entrepreneur. He served as the CTO of Telepod, the world's first e-scooter sharing company, and is also the former CTO of Hivebotics, a robotics company that focuses on automated washroom cleaning. He has extensive experience in entrepreneurship, practical skills and knowledge in mechatronics, the internet of things, product development, and robotics.
Mr Hitesh Babu Mahadev Prasad
Teaching Assistant, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Hitesh graduated with an MSc in Electrical Engineering from NUS in July 2024. He facilitates undergraduate teaching for tutorials and in laboratory sessions.
Mr Shao Yurui
Teaching Assistant, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Yurui graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2024 with an honour bachelor's degree in computer engineering, with distinction, and a minor in Biomedical Engineering. Yurui was recognised on the Dean's List in 2023 and 2024 for academic excellence. His final year project, "Prediction of Freezing of Gait for Parkinson’s Disease Patients Using Machine Learning," earned him the IEEE Control Systems Chapter Prize for the best control engineering project. Yurui is pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS, specialising in Control Systems.
Mr Zhang Xiaoyang
Teaching Assistant, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Xiaoyang received his BEng in Computer Science and Technology from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China, in 2023 and his MSc in Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2024. He is currently pursuing a PhD degree at NUS ECE. His teaching responsibilities include undergraduate-level courses in computer engineering, such as data structures and algorithms.
Ms Lee Hong Yen
Manager, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Prior to joining ChBE Department, Hong Yen was the Safety Manager at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biotechnology at Nanyang Technological University. She holds a Diploma in in Chemical Process Technology (Polymer) from Singapore Polytechnic. Hong Yen is a registered Fire Safety Manager (SCDF), a Workplace Safety and Health Officer (MOM), and an Environmental Control Officer (NEA). She will oversee all safety-related matters for the Department and collaborate closely with the CDE Space and Safety Unit.
Mr Yee Choon Seng
Assistant Manager, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Choon Seng joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in May 2024 as an Assistant Manager for CARTIN. He was also a professional officer under ME at NUS for over 20 years before joining SIMTech (A*Star) as a senior research engineer and later facilities and operations manager for 13 years. He received his MEng and BEng degrees, both in Mechanical Engineering, from NUS, in 1994 and 1989, respectively. He is actively involved in promoting robotics to the public through games and competitions, such as the Singapore Robotic Games.
Ms Ho Kui Lan Ameline
Senior Executive, Department of The Built Environment
Ameline will be supporting undergraduate programmes and together with the team, she will also assist with other administrative matters in the department. She obtained her MSc in Project Management and has many years of working experience in the construction industry. Additionally, her other work experience includes managing academic programmes and teaching different project management, procurement, law and construction economics courses in several private educational institutions.
Ms Koh Xiuling Lynn
Laboratory Technologist, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Lynn joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a Lab Technologist in June 2024. Prior to this, she worked as a Lab Technologist at the NUS Environmental Research Institute, which has given her a strong familiarity with the NUS culture. Her experience enables her to adapt quickly and effectively to new environments.
Ms. Koh holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Control Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic (2004) and a Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bradford (2009). Currently, she is assisting her colleagues with the operations of the Applied Mechanics Lab and supporting the Control Group in running the EPP module.
Mr Fong Sai Kit Esmond
Laboratory Technologist, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Before joining NUS, Esmond worked at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) as a Senior Assistant Manager, where he supported teaching staff with experiment setups and served as an instructor, teaching students in 3D printing.
Esmond holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, which he earned in 2010. He is currently undergoing intensive training to prepare for his role in managing lab operations within the Manufacturing Group.
