STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS & STUDENT LIFE

The Office of Student Life held the CDE Community Day 2023 on 18 October, at the To-Gather student life space at Level 3 of TechnoEdge. With over 500 students in attendance, the event was a great opportunity for CDE students to come together as a community and participate in various activities aimed at fostering connectedness, the spirit of sharing and giving, and unity in working towards a common purpose.

This year’s event had a showcase of community service projects that highlighted the community spirit of some of our female CDE students. The students were given the platform to share about the causes and community groups that are close to their hearts and the initiatives that they have kickstarted to make a difference and give back. Each of the projects on display will be given funding, sponsored by SingLand to motivate more female students to engage in community service.

Another highlight was the grand finals of the highly anticipated inaugural CDE Cook-off Challenge. Four teams, comprising three student chefs, emerged as finalists from the overwhelming sign-ups and qualifier round. The final teams displayed great teamwork and creativity to whip up their best dish for the judges within a tight timeframe of 15 minutes. Team Father Hen, 3 aspiring cooks (at home) Paxton, Jie Min and Dillan, from Biomedical Engineering year 2, walked away as the Champions.

The Affirmation Board, fondly named Good Vibes Only, was popular with students, with many attendees leaving behind handwritten notes of encouragement. It was heart-warming to see students coming together to uplift and support one another through these short notes containing nuggets of positivity and cheer as they filled up the board.

Student attendees also bonded over crafts making, pet therapy and rock painting as part of the community garden show and tell. The Bishi Bashi machine, claw machine, and other arcade games, served as a great outlet for students to seek respite from their classes and assessments together. Many students also showed off their skills at the muffin decoration, as well as enjoying the delectable food treats available at the event.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and made it a success. We look forward to seeing you all at next year's CDE Community Day!

As part of the line-up to WellNUS Festival 2023, the CDE Office of Student Life, in collaboration with the NUS Office of Student Affairs, held the Latte Art workshop at the To-Gather workshop space. Twenty CDE students joined the workshop, eagerly learning the art of pouring to create beautiful designs on the coffee. The trainer started the crowd off with a short lecture on the theory of latte art before allowing the students to attempt at pouring into a new canvas! The Latte Art workshop was the first of a number of exciting workshops held in the WellNUS month for CDE students to promote and celebrate well-being. Keep a look out for more initiatives for CDE students!
