Senior Lecturer/Lecturer

The Division of Industrial Design (DID) seeks highly qualified candidates to support their Master’s of Design (MDes) in Integrated Design and the undergraduate programme in Industrial Design. The programme aims to nurture front-line design professionals and visionaries for established and emerging fields of design, such as Design Leadership and Facilitation, Service Design, Strategic Design, Experience Design, Interaction Design and Transformative Design. The programme will attract students and professionals from various design-related disciplines, thus creating a multi-disciplinary learning and collaborative environment.

The Master’s programme in Integrated Design at NUS will be the first advanced degree programme of its kind in Singapore, a global hub of business, technology, and service. It is home to a wide range of multinational corporations such as Dyson, Google, Facebook, IBM, SAP, DBS, Visa, Singapore Airlines, Samsung, Philips, and Dell. The Master’s programme will strategically leverage this professional environment by engaging students in immersive, research and studio-based activities through their examination of design problems in collaboration with an industry collaborator.

This faculty position serves to strengthen scholarship in areas related to Design. The division regards scholarship as a creative process of inquiry and exploration that adds to the knowledge or appreciation of disciplinary or interdisciplinary understanding, including pedagogical innovations in learning design.

New faculty members appointed as Senior Lecturer or Lecturer are expected to contribute strongly to the teaching missions of the programme. Teaching scenarios include a mix of studio and seminar-based learning environments. Themes include industry collaborative and advanced topic studios. These are complemented by seminars in Design Research Methods, Collaborative Design, Design Strategies & Leadership, and Emerging Topics in Design. In addition to teaching, the appointed faculty members are also expected to make service contributions to the division and college, engage in student recruitment, build relationships with industry collaborators, and maintain an active agenda of research and scholarship.
