Scrolling Against (De)faults :
Challenging Usability-Driven Scrolling
Designed by : | Carina Lim |
Under the Supervision of Dr. Clement Zheng.
The current paradigm of scrolling follows usability defaults promoting qualities like efficiency, seamlessness, and ease of use. While this seems to make sense, it has also perpetrated the attention economy and addiction to digital devices. In this project, scrolling is challenged in various ways to become more tangible and noticeable.
Subversion of scrolling expectations was used to deconstruct the scroll, creating a taxonomy of new scrolling patterns.
Following this, specific case studies that highlighted the new ux opportunities from each scrolling pattern were designed.
