Based on the familiar analogue radio, Lehdio functions as a regular radio by itself, and transforms into a social platform connecting elderly friends when one’s phone is docked. Tuning-in to Lehdio gives the elderly an excuse to interact by enabling spontaneous encounters with friends that tune into the same channel.
Serves as a regular radio device for personal use.
Comes online when phone is docked, allowing one to meet friends by tuning to the same channel.
Tune to different channels to find friends. Static feedback between channels serves as a moment of pause in-between conversations.
Adjust volume balance towards music (away from friends) to listen to broadcasts together with friends, and enjoy ambient, non-verbal companionship.
Even when offline, the number of friends online is displayed for mutual awareness of each other’s availability.
User testing with grandma and her friends.
