Touch is a gift for a remotely located loved one that brings comfort through self-soothing and serves as a proxy for physical presence. Touch heats up in response to interaction on the paired device - a metaphor for sharing physical touch, reinforcing connection between loved ones.
Touch uses heat, tactility, and gestural interactions to serve as a metaphor for physical interactions with loved ones.
The act of gifting creates sentimentality and establishes touch as a proxy for the loved one.
Form and material explorations were user tested to emphasise calm and comfort while strengthening the metaphor of physical touch by looking at how users reacted to and interacted with them. Multiple iterations were also made to optimise technological integration into the device.
