Memoir :

Mirror that Interacts with Senses to Evoke Nostalgia

Designed by : Shermaine Boh
Memoir is a collection of three mirrors, engaging the sense of sight, sound and smell. The interaction with senses will evoke a sense of nostalgia where the user can relive experiences from childhood. Each product symbolises a reflection of the past and the memories that encapsulated a person through the object of the mirror.
Starting with sight, it was inspired by the playfulness of childhood games such as spinning top and traditional paper balloon.
For sound, it was inspired by wind chimes. The movement of reflection and use of metal aid in imitating the sound.
For smell, the interaction between the choice of scent plays a big role in evoking nostalgia to whisk users to another point in time.

Starting from a simple concave, different forms of tessellation and flat facets were explored to ensure the array of colors displayed on the mirror.

Started out from a semi circle, it is stripped down to simple geometrical shape of circle to blend between wood and metal.

The central portion of the concave mirror is where the scent would diffuse upwards, thanks to the capillary action that happens on the mirror surface. The simple concave shape with a stripped off center , gesturing a peel from the mirror to the wood to blend both material together.
