Minor in Innovation & Design: Cohort AY2021/2022
The Minor in Innovation & Design offers students in the Innovation & Design Programme a teaser on basic concepts, methods, and skills that are useful for developing new products, services, and experiences that are of value to stakeholders in real-world problems. It comprises two preparatory courses about user-centred design and value creation in innovation, and culminates in a year-long design project course where students are expected to apply their design knowledge and skills and work together their peers from different disciplines to develop solutions to real problems.
The requirements of the Minor in Innovation & Design are as follows:
Courses | Remarks |
---|---|
Group A – complete ONE of the following:
|
Default is EG2201A. Students from College of Design and Engineering and College of Humanities & Sciences should pass the introductory course DTK1234 Design Thinking prior to taking EG2201A.
EG2310 is targeted at students who intend to work on projects in complex engineering systems. Counted as unrestricted elective. These courses should be completed during Year 1 or Year 2. |
Group B – complete ONE of the following:
|
Default is EG2301.
EG2311 is meant for students who intend to work on satellite-related projects. EG2606B/CDE2605R can be counted as Group B course for students from College of Design and Engineering who are special competition projects only (e.g. FSAE, Bumblebee, RoboMaster). Counted as unrestricted elective except CDE2605R which can be used to partially fulfil the internship requirement for Engineering majors. These courses should be completed during Year 1 or Year 2. |
EG3301R/CDE3301 Ideas to Proof-of-Concept (12 units) | Course is formerly known as DCP Project.
Generally counted as unrestricted elective. This course replaces the design project course in Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Science. This two-semester course must be completed during one of the following windows:
EG3301R cannot be read concurrently with credit-bearing internship. |
Students are encouraged to complete the Minor by end of Year 3 Semester 1 so that those who desire to upgrade to the Second Major in Innovation & Design may do so by the end of the same semester and have sufficient runway to complete the Second Major in their subsequent semesters.
