The Bumblebee team received a S$50,000 seed funding from the NUS Graduate Research Innovation Programme for their spin-off company BeeX to develop commercial applications for their autonomous maritime systems project.

The Bumblebee team emerged as Champion in the 2018 Maritime RobotX Challenge in Hawaii, a global autonomous marine robotics competition that is held every two years. This is a particularly significant achievement for the team as they are the first non-US team to win the competition since its inception in 2012.

A team of four iDP students created an intelligent digital watch paired with a smart pillbox to help working elderly who are suffering from chronic illnesses to remember to take their medication on the go. Their invention was awarded the National Runner-up Prize in the James Dyson Award 2018.

In April, our students developed a quadcopter drone that is powered completely with solar energy, without the need for batteries. This feat is a first in Asia!

A group of 24 students and 2 staff from the iDP went on a 2-week study trip to Shenzhen and Hong Kong in July 2018 to explore the vibrant maker culture in many well-known organizations in China.

Rachiket Arya and Vairavan Ramanathan participated and won in the recent ActInSpace space tech start-up hackathon organised by European Space Agency (ESA) and Centre National D'études Spatiales (CNES)

The NUS FSAE R18 race car has crossed the finish line with our Singapore and NUS flags flying high! They have been ranked 12th out of 118 teams participating this year’s competition held in Michigan from 9 to 12 May 2018. They have also achieved top-10 rankings in the following categories: engineering drawing, brake design, engineering design, acceleration event, and business presentation.

Year 3 NUS Mechanical Engineering student Amos Heng shared his lifelong passion for storytelling with more than 200 guests at the TEDxFuxingPark conference on 21 April in Shanghai, China. TEDxFuxingPark is an independently organised TEDx event dedicated to providing a platform for the sharing of ideas to spark conversation and help communities.

R18, the latest NUS Formula SAE (FSAE) race car, was unveiled on 28 March 2018 at the NUS Alumni House among faculty staff, students, close friends, supporters, former teammates and sponsors. The team of fifteen engineering undergraduates will be pitting themselves against more than 100 teams from around the world at the annual Formula SAE International Challenge held in Michigan, USA (9 – 12 May 2018).
