NG Wei Beng

Associate Professor

MSE

Ng Wei Beng joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering after more than 20 years of professional experience working in various industry. He has been with Sony for 10 years focusing on the R&D of consumer electronics before switching to biomedical research. He worked on impedance spectroscopy-based detection system for virus and graphene-based biotransistor sponsored by Keysight/Agilent Technologies for his industrial PhD at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. After PhD he has worked at Health Science Authority of Singapore, drug eluting cardiovascular stents manufacturer Biosensor followed by blood pressure monitoring transducers and catheter manufacturer Merit Medical. In recent years he founded a medtech startup focusing on anti-inflammatory biopolymers to improve surgical outcomes and has received the Johnson and Johnson Innovation Award.

Research Interests

Wei Beng is interested on the regulatory science of medical devices such as biocompatibility of materials, the interface between electronic and biological systems and the application of natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory biopolymers for biomedical devices and food packaging.
