Industrial spaces and homes under one roof? JTC explores idea with architects

In The Straits Times, Prof Heng Chye Kiang said integrating industrial and residential uses could create more diverse and resilient neighbourhoods.

In The Straits Times, Prof Heng Chye Kiang, Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation) at NUS CDE, from the Department of Architecture, commented on JTC’s study on integrating industrial and residential uses within the same development. He said such co-location could create more diverse, lively and resilient neighbourhoods, while supporting businesses, urban manufacturing and other new uses closer to homes. He added that more flexible planning and regulatory frameworks would be needed to support such integrated developments in Singapore.
