At the NUS University Awards 2026, the prestigious Outstanding Service Award was conferred on Mr Seah Moon Ming, Chairman, Board of Governors of NUS High School of Mathematics & Science and SMRT Corporation Ltd in recognition of sustained contributions in selflessly serving the University and society.
Mr Seah graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Electronics Engineering (EE) in 1981. He was awarded the NUS Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award in 2011 for his many leadership roles in industry and society. He has been a member of the NUS Engineering Board since 2017 and continues to serve on the NUS College of Design and Engineering (CDE) Advisory Board since CDE’s formation in 2022.
Mr Seah has been a champion of advancing engineering education, who possessed the foresight to see the convergence of technology across all sectors and the corresponding need for an educational approach closely aligned with and responsive to industry needs.
He supported the launch of the Robotics and Machine Intelligence programme in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, highlighting the transformative power of robotics and the importance of training talent in the rail industry, stating that “As our rail system ages, a highly skilled workforce is crucial. By integrating robotics and automation for routine tasks, we enable our engineering staff to focus on higher-value technical functions, strengthening network resilience.”
To this day, he continues to advocate for close ties between industry and academia, including engaging students through various platforms, providing them with real-world experiences and advancing collaborative research in support of Singapore’s continued evolution as a highly liveable, sustainable, and resilient city of the future, and as a vibrant urban solutions hub.
At the NUS Engineering 70th Anniversary Celebrations in 2025, Mr Seah spoke of the values instilled during his time at NUS: “Resilience, curiosity, and a strong sense of purpose — values that have guided my career and service to the nation.”
