Professor Lim Chwee Teck (Department of Biomedical Engineering) has received the 2026 WACBE Savio L-Y. Woo Distinguished Lecture Award, recognising his pioneering contributions, leadership and lasting impact in biomedical engineering.
The award, one of the highest honours conferred by the World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE), was presented during the 12th WACBE Congress on Bioengineering 2026, held in Changzhou, China.
Named in honour of Professor Savio L-Y. Woo, a pioneer in biomechanics and biomedical engineering, the award celebrates distinguished scientists whose research has significantly advanced the field while inspiring future generations.
Prof Lim is NUSS Chair Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthtech) at NUS.
Commenting on the award, Prof Lim said: “It is such a profound honour and particularly meaningful to be the first recipient from Asia to receive this prestigious award since it was established in 2015.”
He added: “This award should also belong to my amazing team of students, researchers and collaborators. Thank you for your trust, dedication, partnership and shared commitment to scientific excellence.”
The recognition reflects Prof Lim’s internationally acclaimed contributions to mechanobiology, microfluidics, wearable biomedical technologies and translational health innovation, as well as his longstanding commitment to mentorship and scientific leadership.
His research has advanced understanding of disease biomechanics and enabled new approaches to diagnosis, monitoring and treatment. These efforts have translated into patented technologies, licensed innovations and spin-off companies that bridge fundamental research and real-world healthcare applications.
