Application & Timeline
How to apply
The first call for applications will be made via email in late August (for Architecture, Infrastructure & Project Mgt), early October (for Engineering) and December (for Industrial Design) for exchange occurring in the next academic year. Students in Computer Engineering should apply through School of Computing.
Students will be able to view places available and submit their applications via the NUS Education Records System (NUS EduRec), Academics > Global Education > External Study Application.
Application Timeline
Rounds | Architecture, Infrastructure & Project Mgt | Engineering (excl CEG) | SEP semester |
Application Round 1 | Late August | Early – late October | Sem 1, Sem 2 or year-long |
Application Round 2 |
December (Industrial Design joins in December round only)
|
Late January – February | Sem 2 only |
All students who are planning to embark in Semester 1 and Year-long programmes MUST apply during the first round for their programme. If you are an Engineering Polytechnic direct-entry student or an E-Scholar in your first year of study, you may also apply in the first round.
When applying for SEP
For students in Architecture, Industrial Design, Infrastructure & Project Management, please refer to your home department's email for the latest information.
For Engineering (excl CEG):
(i) To choose at least THREE partner universities in THREE different continents (colour-coded below). Do not choose a partner university that you are not interested in.
Note: Student's application will be AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED if they failed to select partner universities from across THREE different continents, and they would need to re-apply in subsequent round
(ii) Ensure the partner university’s academic calendar is suitable for you (no overlapping with NUS academic calendar)
(iii) Ensure that the SEP partner universities are suitable for your respective programmes
(iv) Do not apply for SEP to your home country (e.g. do not apply for SEP to China, Taiwan and Hong Kong if you are a Chinese national)
Selection Criteria
Students will be assessed based on a weighted average of your GPA and Personal Statement during the review process and include:
- Faculty application criteria;
- PU’s requirement on study abroad/exchange programmes (e.g. minimum GPA/grades, language proficiency, semesters of study completed at home university)
After Application
Applicants will be informed via email on the outcome of their application. Successful applicants will log into EduRec to accept/decline the offer.
Upon accepting the SEP offer, students can start to submit mapping requests via their mapping worksheet in EduRec and await subsequent emails on the application procedure to PU.
PU application email period (subject to respective PU's timeline):
For Semester 1 or year-long SEP – Jan to May
For Semester 2 SEP – Jul to Dec
Should you need advice on your study plan, you may contact your department coordinator or your department administrator.
NOTE: The SEP partner university may decide NOT to accept a student’s application due to various reasons – this decision is usually final. Those who are rejected by their allocated host institution will have a chance to re-apply to another university if time permits.
Withdrawal from SEP
Once a student has accepted a SEP offer, he/she is expected to complete the SEP. Should a student decide to withdraw, they should submit a formal withdrawal request via NUS EduRec with your reason(s).
Withdrawals are taken very seriously as students who withdraw would have deprived other students who could have gone in their place. An administrative fee of S$300 will apply for students who withdraw without valid reasons after accepting the internal offer on NUS EduRec.
This amount will be deducted together with your school fees in the next academic year.
