Professor Hu Jiangyong, Director of the Center for Water Research (CWR), has been elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), under its Technical and Environmental Sciences Class, in recognition of her contributions to water science and technology. Founded in 1990, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts is an international, interdisciplinary network that brings together more than 2,000 scientists, artists and governance practitioners, including Nobel Prize laureates.
Prof. Hu’s research focuses on addressing critical challenges in water security, public health and environmental sustainability. Her work spans advanced water treatment technologies, water reclamation and reuse, water quality assessment, detection and removal of emerging contaminants, and sustainable stormwater management. Through these research efforts, she has contributed to the development of safer, cleaner and more resilient water systems in Singapore and beyond.
Served as the Director of CWR at NUS, Prof. Hu leads and collaborates on research addressing emerging challenges in water quality, treatment and reuse. Her election to the EASA recognizes her sustained contributions to advancing water science and engineering and their translation towards more sustainable water management. Prof. Hu’s election also represents an important recognition of her contributions to the international water research community and reinforces CWR’s commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable solutions for water challenges in Singapore and globally.
