Student Exchange Programme (SEP)

Introduction

The Student Exchange Programme (SEP) allows the student to spend one semester in an approved overseas university offering a similar programme. The experience will help to equip our students better to participate in the global economy that awaits them. Given the government's encouragement to globalize, evidence of an international perspective will be an advantage in their future career.

Students on SEP will take the prescribed courses and some elective courses and their respective examinations in the overseas universities. With the appropriate mapping of courses, students will be given credits which can be counted towards their graduation requirements.

Eligibility

  1. Students must be registered full-time undergraduate student, regardless of nationality. They must maintain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 and above, with no letter grade below 'C' (grade point of 2.0) in any course.
  2. Students can go for SEP during their third year of study either in Semester 1 or 2
  3. Student of foreign nationality and receiving a scholarship should check with the scholarship granting agency to ensure there are no restrictions involving overseas study.

Financial Aspects

Under the exchange programme, students need not pay tuition fees to the host university but they will pay NUS tuition fees for regular semesters while on exchange.

Students are responsible for their own airfare, visa, accommodation and living expenses in the overseas host universities.

Credit Transfer

Students on SEP shall take courses on graded basis at the partner university (i.e. no pass/fail grade). The credits, not the grades, of courses which have been completed satisfactorily shall be transferred if they have been approved and mapped against equivalent courses at NUS. The Grade Point Average (GPA) will not be affected and the total units earned will be reflected in the NUS transcript.

Application Period

The first round (September to November) of SEP application, for both University-Wide (UW) and Department Level (DL), is open to students to embark on exchange in the following Academic Year.

A second round will be conducted in January to March the following year, subjected to availability of remaining SEP vacancies from the first round.
