CDE GIVING
Liu Thai Ker Professorship
The College of Design and Engineering pays tribute to Dr Liu Thai Ker (1938–2026), a visionary architect, educator, and widely regarded as the “father of urban planning” in Singapore. His pioneering work shaped the nation’s public housing and urban landscape, guided by a deeply human centric philosophy that placed people, community, and liveability at the heart of design.
Beyond his national contributions, Dr Liu played a pivotal role at NUS as an Adjunct Professor at the former School of Design and Environment, which later merged with the Faculty of Engineering to form the College of Design and Engineering. He also served as Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Department of Architecture, where he influenced generations of architects and planners through curriculum development and mentorship. His legacy lives on not only in the cities he helped build, but also in the many minds he inspired.
Established in his honour, the Liu Thai Ker Professorship seeks to advance education and research in architecture and urban planning, carrying forward his vision of cities that are both innovative and humane.
We invite you to support this meaningful cause and help nurture future leaders who will design the cities of tomorrow.
