FACULTY AND STAFF UPDATES

New Faculty and Staff

Associate Professor Gareth Gerard Doherty
Department of Architecture

Dr Doherty brings a fieldwork approach to landscape architecture and typically works in postcolonial contexts such as Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Brazil. His books include Landscape Fieldwork: How Engaging the World Can Change Design and Paradoxes of Green: Landscapes of a City-State.

Dr Doherty was previously an associate professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he founded the Critical Landscapes Design Lab. He has a doctorate from Harvard and previously studied at the University of Pennsylvania and University College Dublin.

Professor Gary Ang
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Professor Gary joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a Professor (Practice Track) in February 2026. Before joining NUS, he has served Singapore in various capacities in the Singapore Air Force (Brigadier-General), Ministry of Defence (Deputy Secretary), and Temasek (Operating Partner). He has more than a decade’s experience in venture-building at Temasek, guiding investment decisions amid complex geopolitical, policy, and technological risks.

Dr Li Shengman
Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Dr Shengman Li joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as Assistant Professor in January 2026. She completed her postdoctoral training at Stanford University (2022–2026) with Professors Subhasish Mitra and H.-S. Philip Wong. She holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Microelectronics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research focuses on monolithic 3D integration technologies that advance energy efficiency and computing performance, with expertise spanning nanomaterials synthesis, design-technology co-optimisation (DTCO), and hybrid integration. Her work has produced landmark results, including co-designed indium-tin-oxide (ITO) FETs for ultra-low leakage applications (Nature Materials '19), quantum-well oxide semiconductor designs for on-chip memory, and pioneering process innovations in carbon nanotube (CNT) MOSFETs, including the first nanosheet structure — with over 18 publications at top venues including IEDM, Symp. VLSI Tech., IEEE EDL and IEEE T-ED.

Dr Niu Chang
Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Dr Niu Chang received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 2024 under Prof. Peide D. Ye and his B.S. in Physics from Fudan University in 2018. His research focuses on nanoelectronics and quantum transport in emerging materials, aiming to enable next-generation electronic and quantum devices. His work spans oxide semiconductors, low-dimensional and chiral materials, integrating material synthesis, device fabrication, and advanced transport characterisation to uncover new physical mechanisms and scalable device concepts. Prior to joining NUS, he was a postdoctoral researcher at IMEC. Dr Niu has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and received the Best Paper Award at the prestigious IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM).

Professor Richard Hendrik Marc Goossens
Visiting Professor, Division of Industrial Design

Professor Richard Goossens is a leading authority in physical ergonomics and healthcare design, and the driving force behind TU Delft's Convergence Health & Technology initiative. His work integrates medicine, engineering, and the social sciences to advance proactive, human-centred healthcare - emphasising early diagnostics, prevention, and precision medicine. Through large-scale research programmes and real-world innovation, he champions equitable access, lifelong health, and the translation of design-led research into meaningful societal impact.

Dr Dasom Choi
Assistant Professor, Division of Industrial Design

Dr Dasom Choi received her BSc in Industrial Design at UNIST and earned her MSc and PhD in Industrial Design from KAIST. Her research spans Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Accessibility, and Human-centered AI, with a focus on designing inclusive technologies for marginalised communities including people with disabilities, older adults, and children. Her contributions have been recognised with a Best Paper Award and an Honourable Mention Award at ACM CHI.

Dr Dai Fangzhou
Lecturer, NUS Cities, Dean’s Office

Dr Dai has been with NUS Cities for nearly three years as a Research Fellow and previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the IREUS and the Department of Real Estate (DRE) at NUS. She received her PhD in DRE from NUS in 2020, an MA in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Sheffield, and a BA in Urban Planning & Regeneration from the University of Liverpool. Her research focuses on travel behaviour, urban and transportation planning, and sustainable development, and she has over five years of teaching experience at DRE and CDE.

Miss Loh Ying Ying, Eunice
Executive, NUS Cities, Dean’s Office

Miss Eunice Loh is a graduate of Yale-NUS College, where she majored in Urban Studies. Her interests lie at the intersection of cities, design, and data visualisation. She is particularly interested in exploring how design can help facilitate more inclusive and accessible spaces. Eunice is drawn to interdisciplinary approaches and the serendipitous collaborations they foster.

Ms Huda Binte Muhammad Ilyasa
Executive, Department of Architecture

Ms Huda binte Muhammad Ilyasa holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Communications and New Media from the National University of Singapore. With prior experience in the non-profit sector, Huda is passionate about meaningful, people-centred work. In her current role, she coordinates design studio activities, including interim and final reviews, and provides administrative support for undergraduate and graduate programmes. She also contributes to curriculum implementation, admissions, and academic administration, working closely with faculty, students, and external stakeholders.

Mdm Nurul Nashita Abdullah Yee @Celine Yee Huay Chen
Senior Executive, Division of Industrial Design

Ms Nashita Yee comes from a background in procurement and logistics, with a focus on improving customer delivery and transforming supply chains. She has spent a significant part of her career at Schneider Electric, where she has had the opportunity to lead some exciting projects in the East Asia Japan region. She is thrilled to be here to contribute to the team’s success.
