Dr Zhou Jianshu
Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

Dr Zhou Jianshu received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 2020 and subsequently joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he was a Research Assistant Professor. He then continued his research as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Professor Masayoshi Tomizuka’s group at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on embodied robotic manipulation, including dexterous robotic hands, variable-stiffness and modular manipulators, and high-fidelity human-robot teleoperation. His work spans mechanics, control, sensing, and learning, with strong links to embodied AI and next-generation robotic systems. He has also published extensively in leading robotics and automation venues, holds several US patents, and has experience in technology translation and start-up activities.

Dr Liu Shangwei
Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr Liu Shangwei joined as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the NUS Presidential Fellowship in March 2026. Dr Liu’s research focuses on energy and climate policy, with an emphasis on bridging engineering-based modelling with policy and economic analysis. His work examines energy system decarbonisation strategies, technology innovation and the economic and welfare impacts of climate change. Dr Liu received his PhD in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy from Princeton University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Beijing Normal University.

Mr Su Yong'an
Laboratory Executive, Department of Biomedical Engineering

Mr Su Yong'an supports the management and operations of the BME teaching laboratories and Product Realisation Studio. Before joining NUS, he worked at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in laboratory operations, focusing on sample preparation and physical analytical equipment. Prior to joining NTU, he coordinated New Product Introduction activities in the microelectronics sector, specialising in wafer-level chip-scale package.

Mr Cheong Chong Kiat 
Laboratory Technologist, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Mr Cheong Chong Kiat has rejoined as a Laboratory Technologist for the Quantum Communications Laboratory and the Quantum Engineering Laboratory. He previously held the same position in the department for approximately five years, during which he gained experience in procurement and implemented laboratory safety practices at NUS.

During his previous tenure, he managed procurement of specialised quantum technologies, including sourcing, vendor coordination, and compliance, and supported the installation and deployment of laboratory systems.

Ms Zoe Chiow Dong Xuan
Executive, Communications and Marketing, Dean's Office

Ms Zoe Chiow joins CDE Comms, bringing her experience in media and marketing to the education portfolio. A recent graduate of the NUS Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, she specialises in writing, content development, and stakeholder engagement. In her new role, Zoe is eager to craft engaging narratives for CDE's undergraduate and graduate programmes, drawing on her passion and past work as a writer covering national, sporting, and community events.

Ms Ong Leng Neo Mitchelle
Management Assistant Officer, Office of Development, Dean's Office

Ms Mitchelle Ong has more than 17 years of experience in Singapore's higher education sector, where she managed student curriculum and academic programmes, building strong skills in organisation, stakeholder engagement, and programme planning. In this transition to a role in the Dean's Office (Office of Development), she hopes to leverage her experience and understanding of the University's environment to support meaningful engagement and contribute to the University's growth.

Ms B Sindhu
Assistant Manager, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering 

Ms Sindhu joined the Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore as an Assistant Manager for Partnerships. In this role, she supports partnership engagement efforts, fostering collaborations that advance CFI Singapore's mission in coastal protection and flood resilience.

Prior to joining NUS, she was with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Singapore where she led process improvement initiatives and managed legal operations projects. Sindhu holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Management from the University of Birmingham via SIM Global Education and has recently completed an MBA from Murdoch University.

Ms Tang Mee Yun, Jasmine
Senior Executive, Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management 

Ms Jasmine Tang brings extensive administrative and operations experience in the higher-education sector, with a proven track record in supporting senior stakeholders, coordinating meetings and schedules, and managing procurement and payment processes. With her enthusiasm for supporting students’ educational pathways and engaging external stakeholders, she will be a valuable addition to the team in managing ISEM’s experiential programmes, including the Systems Design Project and Industrial Attachment.

Management Updates

Prof Liew Jat Yuen, Richard has stepped down as Head of the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering with effect from 1 May 2026. The College would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Prof Liew for his contributions.
