FACULTY AWARDS & RECOGNITION
Asst Prof Filip Biljecki honoured by Royal Geographical Society
Assistant Professor Filip Biljecki has received the 2026 Gill Memorial Award from the Royal Geographical Society, recognising his research work in urban analytics, geospatial data science and digital twins, fields that are transforming how cities can be measured, modelled and understood.
The Gill Memorial Award is presented to early-career researchers who have demonstrated exceptional potential and made significant contributions to geographical science. Named after British explorer Captain William J. Gill, the award was first established in the 1880s and is now presented to researchers who have shown great potential in advancing geographical research.
The RGS annual medals and awards recognise outstanding contributions across geographical research, teaching, policy and public engagement, with past recipients and medallists including figures such as Sir David Attenborough and Neil Armstrong.
The award will be presented at the Society’s Medals and Awards Ceremony in London in June.

Three CDE faculty awarded 2026 Robert Brown Promising Researcher Award
Three CDE faculty members have been awarded the 2026 Robert Brown Promising Researcher Award from Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE):
- Assistant Professor Yueming Jin (joint appointment, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering)
- Assistant Professor Wang Lei (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering)
- Assistant Professor Yuzhu Pearl Li (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering)
The award recognises outstanding early-career researchers with strong potential to advance academic research and innovation.
Asst Prof Jin received the award for her project “AI-AR-Enabled Navigation Platform for Clinical Treatment”, which uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality to improve precision in clinical procedures.
Asst Prof Wang received the award for his project on AI-driven electrochemical diagnosis for sustainable catalysis, which uses AI and electrochemical sensing to better understand catalytic reactions in real time.
Asst Prof Li was recognised for her project MAPS – Modelling microplAstic Pollutant transport and fate in tropical coaStal environments, which investigates how microplastics move through tropical coastal systems.
Named in honour of Dr Robert Brown, the founding Chairman of the MOE’s Academic Research Council, the award comes with funding support to help recipients expand their research and pursue new directions beyond the original scope of their projects.

Assoc Prof Annapoornima M. Subramanian clinches Cheryl Gaimon Best Management of Technology Paper Award by the POM Journal
Associate Professor Annapoornima M. Subramanian's paper, “It's Time to Break Up: Dynamics Surrounding Young-Established Firm Alliance Duration” has been selected for the Cheryl Gaimon Best Management of Technology Paper Award by the Production and Operations Management (POM) Journal.
Her research examines how young firms decide when to end partnerships with established companies. While these partnerships offer benefits, they also carry risks: staying too long can be damaging, but leaving can be equally risky when alternatives are limited.
Using formal modeling and empirical analysis, the study reveals how young firms optimise these decisions, especially during technological discontinuities.
The award was presented at the POMS Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada during the President's Banquet Dinner & Awards Ceremony on 9 May 2026.
The mission of Production and Operations Management is to serve as the flagship research journal in operations management in manufacturing and services.
