Steve Jobs once said: “It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.” As stated in BusinessWeek, May 25 1998

Each individual has a preference in relation to specific needs in their daily life. As a designer, Steve Jobs strives to meet those criterias and fulfill the needs of the targeted group, and that has inspired me to design in the same manner. I believe it will prepare me for a future career as a Design Educator to groom and mould the next generation of designers. The university curriculum especially, is planned in such a way that it will mould me in depth as designer and professional in this field.

Project 1 - starterKit

In collaboration with St Luke’s Hospital & Yong-en Dementia Care Centre 'StarterKit' is a product which alleviates the challenges commonly faced in usage of existing products targeting dementia. 'StarterKit' aims to provide caregivers with a source of activities to engage their loved ones suffering from dementia. With activities that engage the patient's cognitive, physical and psychosocial state, 'StarterKit' provides both patients and caregivers an effective means of communication, thereby easing the burden of engaging them.

Project 2 - URFRIDGE
Tapping on inherent behaviour as a way to conserve energy, users are empowered as they play active roles in conserving energy, yet with minimal alteration to THEIR current habits. Sustainability is about tapping on consumers’ intrinsic behaviour patterns, as a means to converse energy. This empowers consumers as they become aware of the active roles they play in energy conservation, yet with minimal alteration to what they are already accustomed to :cheaper food, and with convenience. However, they are notably also more willing to pay for fresh and healthy food, and are willing to go to great lengths to find it.
Project 3 - CUCUMA
In hindu culture, the use of turmeric is very important, especially in weddings, prayers and even cooking. The turmeric is dried and powdered with a bit of slacked lime, which turns the rich yellow powder into a red colour to kumkum.
