Associate Professor

Biography

Khoo Eng Tat is an Associate Professor and Area Director (Outreach) at the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre, College of Design and Engineering. Concurrently he holds honorary joint appointments as Associate Professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Institute of Operations Research and Analytics. He also directs the Immersive Reality Lab. His research and teaching interest areas include product development, VR/AR, conversational AI and human computer interaction (HCI). He is the founding lecturer and module coordinator of EG4301A Ideas to Startup, a pre-accelerator final year project module, and the coordinator of EDIC Accelerator. He supervises undergraduate students (EG3301R Ideas to Proof-of-Concept and EG4301 DCP dissertation) and graduate students (PhD and MEng).

Prof Khoo is a founding member of the Holomedicine Association which promotes mixed reality adoption in clinical education and practice. He mentors startups at the Pixel, Infocomm Media Development Authority and Startup SG Network, Enterprise Singapore. He is also an advisor to the Republic Polytechnic School of Technology for the Arts. He was a board director of the AsiaVR Association where he contributed to the accelerated growth of the VR/AR developer community in Singapore and the region. He served as an advisory board member of 2012 New Media Consortium that identified emerging technologies in the Singapore education system. He was also the artistic advisor for the 6th Asia-Europe Art Camp, organized by Asia-Europe Foundation.

He was formerly the R&D director of a pioneering VR/AR company, where he led interdisciplinary teams and spearheaded new product development. He went on to co-found a VR startup and later took on the role of Head of Engineering at a venture capital firm.

He graduated with a PhD from NUS Mixed Reality Lab and Keio-NUS CUTE Center.
