The Central Workshop offers more complex prototyping services. We are open to supporting fabrication jobs from researchers and external parties.

Milling Machines

	Conventional CNC Mill A milling machine removes metal by rotating a multi-toothed cutter that is fed into the moving workpiece (X & Y axis). The spindle can be fed up and down (Z axis) with a quill handle on the head.
	DMG Mori NVX 5080 3-Axis CNC Mill The NVX 5000 series vertical machining center achieves high accuracy. Offering unparalleled high-precision machining, the machine can handle a wide variety of workpieces. Table size: 800 mm x 510 mm x 510 mm
	Makino D300 5-Axis CNC Mill The D300 is designed to provide superior sustained dynamic accuracy in a five–axis configuration. Core-cooled ballscrews, temperature-controlled DD motors and spindle all combine to deliver thermal stability. The DD-driven rotary axes provide the speed and accuracy to be productive in a wide variety of workpieces and materials. Table size: 250 mm x 250 mm x 200 mm
	Maxxturn 45 CNC Turn-Mill Fitted with a counter spindle, driven tools, a high-precision C-axis and extremely fast rapid motion speeds, the MAXXTURN 45 is capable of manufacturing complex turned-milled parts efficiently. The highlight of the machine is its very stiff Y-axis with long travel for almost unlimited machining capabilities with maximum precision. The MAXXTURN 45 is fitted with a Fanuc control. Fintek Shearer

The Fintek Shearer is used to shear sheet metals like aluminium and mild steel.

Maximum workpiece thickness: 1mm for mild steel, 2mm for aluminium

Comaca Hydraulic Notching SH200/4

The SH200/4 is a compact, heavy duty hydraulic 90-degree notcher that has a cast head and table. The table is machined with ridges so that workpieces will not stick to its surface. Its low profile allows notching of formed parts.
