MSc (MOTI) student - Tay Yu Tian Danielle
Danielle graduated as the Valedictorian of the Mechanical Engineering Class of 2024 at the National University of Singapore (NUS), receiving several prestigious honours including the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, IES Gold Medal, ST Engineering Prize, ExxonMobil Medal & Prize, and the Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Prize.
While her engineering background provided a strong technical base, Danielle has always been inspired by the bigger picture. She recognised that solving today's technology challenges requires strategic thinking on top of technical excellence. She thus chose to pursue the Master of Science in Management of Technology and Innovation (MOTI) at NUS to develop the perspectives needed to operate at the intersection of technology, business and strategy. For her outstanding performance in the programme, Danielle was awarded the esteemed Tang Yuen Seng Prize.
Reflecting on her experience in the programme, Danielle gained expertise in MOTI concepts such as technology management and foresight, intellectual property management and analytics, digital disruption, and more. Through in-class discussions and projects, she applied various MOTI concepts to analyse technology trends through technical, business, legal and policy lenses, evaluate competitive and intellectual property landscapes, assess digital disruption strategies, and develop strategic recommendations based on analyses of real organisations. She also engaged in meaningful discussions with guest speakers from both the public and private sectors about the importance and real-world challenges of technology management.
Today, Danielle is a Senior Engineer with the Space Office at the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), where she supports project management and acquisition efforts that directly contribute to the development of Singapore's space capabilities. As the space domain continues to evolve rapidly, technology decisions are increasingly influenced by technology roadmapping, cross-national collaboration, and long-term capability development. Danielle aspires to leverage the perspectives gained through the MOTI programme to help shape technology decisions that strengthen Singapore's space capabilities and support the continued development of the local space ecosystem.
