Milestones in the Department’s History

2022		Master of Science in (Industrial and Systems Engineering) launched two new areas of specialization: i) Data Analytics and ii) Engineering and Service Management on top of its existing iii) Operations Research and iv) Systems Engineering specializations. Master of Science in (Management of Technology) was rebranded as Master of Science in (Management of Technology and Innovation) and offers two new areas of specialization: i) Data Analytics for Innovation Management and ii) Product Management and Digital Strategy on top of its existing iii) Innovation & Entrepreneurship specialization. Both Master of Science in (Industrial and Systems Engineering) and (Management of Technology and Innovation) are offered as self-funded programmes.
2021		NG Szu Hui appointed Head of Department.
2020		Master of Science in (Maritime Technology and Management) was launched in partnership with Centre of Maritime Studies as a self-funded programme.
2019		Launch of Graduate Certificate in Technological Innovation Management programme
2017		Merger of the Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) Department with the Division of Engineering & Technology Management (ETM) to form the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering & Management (ISEM).
2016		Andrew LIM Leong Chye appointed Head of Department.
2014		Launch of the Master of Science in Management of Technology with Specialization in Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
2012		Executive Master in Systems Engineering & Management was launched.
2011		MSc (Supply Chain Management) was launched in collaborations with Decision Science and TLIAP. Joint Summer Program with Georgia Institute of Technology. Launch of Graduate Certificate in Management of Technology programme Contributed to the newly established Institute of Engineering Leadership (IEL) as a major academic anchor in teaching and research activities, particularly in the strategic area of Innovation and Entrepreneurship
2010		Summer programmes in China launched.
2008		TANG Loon Ching was appointed as Head of Department. Introduced 2nd Major in Systems Engineering and Minor in Systems Engineering.
2007		BEng (Industrial & Systems Engineering) programme received accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Board(EAB) under Washington Accord. New BTech (Industrial & Management Engineering) programme was launched. Upgraded to a full-fledge interdisciplinary academic department, Division of Engineering & Technology Management (D-ETM) Spearheaded Singapore's first CTO-Network Forum with the Institution of Engineers (IES) Collaborated with the School of Business to offer the Second Major in Management (Technology)
2006		Launch of Master of Science in Systems Design & Management (SDM) and Master of Science in IP Management (IPM) programmes.
2005		Conferment of the new batch of 39 BEng (ISE) graduates. Launch of Master of Science in Management of Technology (MOT) programme.
2004		Establishment of the Centre for Management of Science and Technology (CMOST) Launch of Research programme (MEng/PhD) and Minor in Management of Technology
2001		ANG Beng Wah was appointed as Head of Department. New BEng (Industrial & Systems Engineering) degree programme was launched.
1994		Conferment of 1st PhD graduate.
1993		MSc (Industrial Engineering) was replaced by MSc (Industrial & Systems Engineering).
1988		Conferment of 1st MEng graduate.
1980		GOH Thong Ngee was appointed as Head of Department.
1976		The Department was moved to the Kent Ridge Campus.
1975		LAW Song Seng was appointed as Head of Department. BEng (Industrial & Systems Engineering) degree was phased out.
1974		Hiroshi MATSUO was appointed as Head of Department. MSc (Systems Engineering) replaced by MSc (Industrial Engineering).
1972		D. E. MORGAN was appointed as 1st Head of Department. BEng (Industrial & Systems Engineering) degree course was started.
1971		1st batch of eight students graduated with the MSc (Systems Engineering) degree.
1969		Systems Engineering Group established in Faculty of Engineering at Prince Edwards Road Campus. Chairman: T. J. PACKER (Weapons Research Establishment, South Australia). Part-time MSc (Systems Engineering) course was started. External Examiner: G. M. JENKINS (University of Lancaster, UK).
