Student Medal and Prizes

IES Gold Medals

Prior to 1999, four IES Gold Medals are available for award annually, one each to a student completing the course of study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and who is first in general proficiency throughout his complete course of study for the degree. In 1999 and 2000 the Institution of Engineers donated three additional medals; one each to a student completing the course of study for the degree of Bachelor of Technology (Electronics Engineering), Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering) and Bachelor of Technology (Chemical Engineering) respectively.

In 2002, the Institution of Engineers donated another medal to a student completing the course of study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering).
In 2004, the donor agreed to contribute three additional gold medals for award to the top graduating students in Bachelor of Engineering in Computing Engineering; Industrial and System Engineering and Bioengineering.
In 2009, the donor agreed to contribute two additional gold medals for awarding to the top graduating students in Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Engineering Science Programme (ESP).
In 2015, the donor agreed to contribute an additional gold medal for awarding to the top graduating student in Bachelor of Technology (Industrial & Management Engineering) Programme.
In 2021, the donor agreed to contribute an additional gold medal for awarding to the top graduating student in Bachelor of Technology (Civil Engineering) Programme.

The awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medals are available for awarding annually, one each to a top student completing the course of study for the respective degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology (BTech).
  2. The top student is one who is first in general proficiency throughout his complete course of study for the degree. The primary criterion is the Grade Point Average (GPA).
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The medals are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation
