Master of Science (Management of Technology and Innovation)
How do companies and organizations gain sustainable competitive advantage through technology and innovation? How do companies and organizations create, capture and deliver value through technology? These are the fundamental questions we seek to address in the Master of Science in Management of Technology and Innovation (MOTI) programme.
The MOTI programme is designed to provide engineers, scientists and business professionals having a background or interest in technology with the cutting edge knowledge, frameworks and tools of innovation and technology management. The emphasis is on the effective anticipation, creation, and use of technology to innovate products and processes to accomplish the strategic and operational objectives of an organization. The need for MOTI training at the postgraduate level has been well recognised by leading organizations and top universities around the world. Taught by world-class faculty and industry leaders, the topics covered include innovation and intellectual property management, disruption and evolution of technology, technology strategy and forecasting, new product development, venture creation, entrepreneurial strategy and finance, and many more.
For careers in research and development (R&D), the MSc MOTI will prepare you to be a proactive member of your R&D department and accelerate your development as an effective manager and leader. For non-R&D careers such as corporate development and planning, data analytics, finance, marketing, logistics, technology transfer, design and manufacturing, the programme will prepare you to be a future leader in a technology-enabled organization and open doors to new and exciting opportunities. For aspiring entrepreneurs, you will be able to learn how to create new ventures and use salient entrepreneurial and technology strategies in an immersive and interactive environment.
Domain-specific focus in the programme is also available if you wish to deepen your understanding in any of the following areas of specialisation:
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E)
- Data Analytics for Innovation Management (DAIM)
- Product Management and Digital Strategy (PMDS)

Tuition Fees and Curriculum information for previous intakes
Qn: I do not have a 2nd class honours, can I still apply?
Yes, you may apply. Considerations will be given for relevant work experience. We may also call you for an interview if necessary.
Qn: What is the typical class profile?
Majority of our students are aged between 22 to 35.
Qn: What is the difference between full-time and part-time if all the classes are held in the evenings?
A full-time student can take up to 20 units (or typically 5 courses) per semester, hence, they will study one course per weekday. A part-time student is limited to half of a full-time student’s workload, and will only be able to study up to a maximum of 12 units (or typically up to 3 courses) per semester.
Qn: What are the job prospects after attaining this degree? Will NUS help with job placements?
Some of the common job prospects are technology and IP managers, management consultants, business and financial analysts, and promotion to middle or senior management job roles in a wide range of industries leveraging technology and innovation for competitive advantages. There will be career fairs organised by the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates to help you connect with potential employers.
Qn: Can I opt for more than 1 area of specialisation?
You may only graduate with 1 area of specialisation, hence it is important for you to choose the right one from the start so as not to delay your graduation.
Qn: Can I opt out of the specialisation after selecting it?
Yes, you may change or opt out of the specialisation at the start of every new semester during course registration exercise. However, it is important to select the correct specialisation in your graduating semester as it will affect your graduation eligibility.
Students who have completed 40 units and fulfilled the general MSc MOTI degree but not the AOS will have their AOS dropped and be graduated with the general MSc MOTI degree automatically.
Qn: How do I file for graduation?
Students will be automatically graduated once they have completed 40 units and fulfilled the general MSc MOTI degree or the AOS, whichever is earlier. There is no need to file for graduation. Conferment will be on either 31 January (end of semester 1) or 30 June (end of semester 2). You may refer to Registrar’s website on more details of conferment, student status letter, transcripts & scrolls, and other actions required upon conferment.
