The Annual Engineering Alumni Awards recognise the accomplishments and contributions of exemplary NUS Engineering alumni. This year, four of our alumni have been recognised for their outstanding achievements.

The Awards Ceremony was held on December 2nd at the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House to commemorate the achievements of our illustrious alumni. Our heartiest Congratulations to the award recipients.

Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award (DEAA)

The DEAA was instituted in 1989 and is conferred on NUS Engineering alumni who have distinguished themselves nationally or internationally through excellent and sustained contributions and achievements in public and community service, entrepreneurship, in a professional or scholarly field.

Mr Vincent Chong Sy Feng is the Group President & CEO of ST Engineering, a global technology, defence and engineering group. He is a firm believer in harnessing technology, engineering and innovation to solve real-world problems, improve lives and enable a more sustainable world. Driven by this common belief at ST Engineering, the group has deployed its smart city solutions for over 700 projects in more than 100 cities around the world. Beyond his business leadership and management role in ST Engineering, Mr Chong contributes actively to public and community services. He is a member of the emerging stronger taskforce (EST) that reviewed how Singapore can build new sources of dynamism and stay economically resilient in a post-COVID-19 world.

Professor Er Meng Hwa is a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at NTU. He has a long and illustrious track record of distinguished academic and administrative services in NTU. He has an impressive research track record in the fields of smart antenna array signal processing, satellite communications, computer vision and optimisation techniques. Prof Er's ambitious project of developing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) micro-satellite technology in collaboration with DSO National Labs led to the successful launch of the first Singapore designed and built experimental micro-satellite, X-Sat, in 2011. His contributions to the public and community are extensive and over the course of three decades, he has chaired and participated in a wide range of committees.

Outstanding Engineering Young Alumni Award (OEYAA)

The OEYAA is conferred on young NUS Engineering alumni who have distinguished themselves nationally or internationally through excellent and sustained contributions and achievements in public and community service, in a professional or scholarly field.

Er. Kwa Chin Soon serves as the Deputy Director of Land Transport Authority, in charge of the construction of part of the Circle Line MRT running through the challenging geology of the Central Business District. He has also actively contributed to the engineering community, publishing papers in reputable conferences in the field of geotechnical engineering. Outside of engineering, he has served in the Grassroots since 2007, and is currently the chairman of the Sengkang West Youth Network where he curates and organises events to create a vibrant youth community in Sengkang West.

Mr Moh Wei Qun Raymond is the CEO and Co-founder of Hanalytics Pte Ltd, also known as BioMind. He is a keen advocate for technology-driven growth, the company which he co-founded, BioMind, is a multi-award winning and ISO 13485 certified Artificial Intelligence (AI) company, providing deep learning solutions to improve medical image diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. For example, BioMind assisted in the pandemic by using AI to train machines to detect Covid-19 pneumonia on CT scans within seconds.
