Prof Chen Jingsheng is elected to IEEE Fellow, effective 1 January 2025 due to his contributions to magnetic materials and heterostructures for Magnetic Recording Technology and Spintronics.

Recognised in 2024 MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 (TR35)
Asst Prof Zhu Di was recognised in the 2024 MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 (TR35) Asia Pacific list for his contributions in developing scalable photonic quantum technologies.

2025 IRMMW-THz Society Young Scientist Award
Asst Prof Denis Bandurin received the 2025 IRMMW-THz Society Young Scientist Award “For the fundamental study of the terahertz response of free electrons in solids”.
2DM Young Scientist Award 2024
Asst Prof Ahmet Avsar received an award given by the prestigious IOP Publisher to exceptional young scientists (born on or after January 1, 1983) who have made significant contributions to two-dimensional materials and demonstrated great potential for development.

NUS Researchers spin-off Selected for Breakthrough Energy Fellows - Southeast Asia Inaugural Cohort
Two researchers - Saikiran Reddy and Wang Xun (co-founders of Lincore) from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) have been selected for the inaugural cohort of Breakthrough Energy Fellows – Southeast Asia (BE Fellows – SEA).

NUS Achievement Awards - Sports Scholarship Award
Materials Science and Engineering Year 3 student - Ms Ng Yi Hsuan was awarded with NUS Sports Scholarship Award as a recognition for her contributions to community sports as President of NUS Golf.

2024 KMUTNB International Academic And Cultural Camp
A group of 13 MSE students, accompanied by their lecturer, recently embarked on an enriching visit to King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). They were honored to witness the prestigious Oath of Allegiance Ceremony for KMUTNB freshmen, marking the start of an exciting academic journey for the new students. The group engaged in a variety of dynamic activities, including the Stick Bridge challenge and a Robotics Competition, showcasing their skills and teamwork. This memorable trip not only broadened their academic horizons but also deepened their appreciation for Thai heritage, while strengthening the bonds between the two institutions.

2024 Materials Innovation and Engineering Challenge - Save the Egg Challenge
The Materials Innovation and Engineering Challenge, also known as the "Save the Egg Challenge", is a hands-on activity where participants from Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and International Schools design and build protective structures to prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a height, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills.

The National Research Foundation awards S$8.3M to a team led by Assoc Prof Stefan Adams from MSE for the development of functionally intelligent energy storage systems with 70% higher energy density that autonomously sense and self-optimize their performance over 3 times longer cycle life in the CRP project “Long-Life Solid-State Batteries by Intelligent Composites with Active Interfaces”.
