Charlene Liew, FRCR, is the Deputy Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Changi General Hospital and Director of Innovation for the SingHealth Radiological Science Academic Clinical Programme.

She has won awards in education (ASEAN congress of radiology 2011, American Roentgen Ray Society, 2015), in innovation, as well as research, and was awarded Best Young Presenter at the Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging meeting in 2016 for ground-breaking research conducted during her HMDP into high-resolution late gadolinium enhancement MRI with machine learning techniques.

Her leadership journey began during her AST/BST training when she was nominated to serve as class representative for the entire AST trainee cohort, later leading the online CGH radiology call competency training program. In 2018 she attended an executive program in Organisational transformation, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics with a certificate of completion jointly awarded by the MIT Computer Science and AI Laboratory (MIT CSAIL) and MIT Sloan School of Management. She is newly elected Chair of the Singapore Radiology Informatics subsection of the Society of Radiologists Singapore (2021).

In 2019 she was elected Chair of the Chapter of Diagnostic Radiology, College of Radiologists Singapore and whilst in the College she led the effort for the College of Radiologists Singapore committee for CT Lung Cancer Screening which has produced a national level position paper as well as an emergency guideline for remote radiology reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is the current director of cardiothoracic imaging at CGH and her interests include medical education, artificial intelligence in imaging, imaging informatics, cardiothoracic imaging and emergency radiology.

She is a strong advocate for quality improvement as well as a believer in the strength of good teams, helping her interprofessional team of radiographers clinch the Outstanding Oral Presentation prize at the MOH Value-Driven Care Conference 2019 for dose reduction in low dose CT chest scans.

Charlene is a well-known clinician in many circles and serves as reviewer for international and local journals: Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, European Radiology, Annals of the Academy of Medicine Singapore and BMJ Case Reports. She sits on the Radiology informatics subcommittee of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Organizing committee of the International Association for the study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) annual meeting, and serves as member of consultative MOH committees/workgroups on AI as a medical device (AI-MD). She was appointed as the Singapore representative (and EXCO member) to the Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging in 2021.

In 2023 she will helm the AI in imaging track at the annual Singapore Congress of Radiology as track chair and member of the SGCR organizing committee. She was appointed as member of the SingHealth AI executive committee (EXCO) in 2021.

Charlene has a wealth of experience in informatics, having held posts in the SingHealth RISPACS workgroup, as well the SingHealth OdySSey steering committee. She holds leadership roles in AI and Informatics committees, including Chairman of the Singapore Radiological Society AI subsection, and committee member of the informatics subcommittee at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting.

She is the Chair for the Call for Collaboration to build a National medical imaging AI-enabled platform, under the sponsorship of SNDGO (Smart Nation and Digital Government office, Prime Minister’s Office) and MOH, under the guidance and mentorship of MOH Chief Health Scientist
