Dr Eliza and her team’s work on developing liver tumor models called patient-derived xenografts (PDX) has been published in the leading bioengineering journal – Biomaterials – and reported on Nanowerk on 8 Feb 2018.
Her work addressed the expensive and time-consuming conventional method of growing PDX cancer cells in culture, by introducing synthetic 3D scaffolds. These are made of a plant-based porous hydrogel which helps the cells to maintain proper shape, function and growth for drug screening.
