Chew Wanlong, Nicholas

Instructor

Nicholas obtained his Masters of Engineering (Sustainable Transport) and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from Newcastle (UK) University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2020 and 2019 respectively. As an Instructor, he supervises and guides students working on an array of robotics-related projects across various disciplines, focusing on mobile manipulators and sensor technology in industrial automation applications. Concurrently, Nicholas is also one of the staff supervisors of the NUS RoboMaster team competing for the annual combat-based robotics competition held in China and the USA.

Prior to his current appointment, Nicholas was a research engineer at Newcastle University’s Design Unit, part of the British Gear Association (BGA), specializing in mechanical power transmission designs in automotive and marine sectors. Upon returning to Singapore in 2022, Nicholas was a Robotics Engineer for the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore and was involved in the implementation of the factory’s robotic setup for Singapore’s first ever modular, cell-based car production facility for new Hyundai EV models, including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Robotaxis, all of which are assembled locally.
