Space Systems Studio: Galassia-5

The Space Systems Studio aims to bring together like minded staff and students to take part in projects related to space systems. The studio also aims to get students connected with people in the industry and aims to give them a head start for a career in the local space industry.

This studio will focus on the development of Galassia-5. Galassia-5 is the latest satellite in our flagship undergraduate student-built CubeSat programme. The multi-year, multi-disciplinary student team is targeting to demonstrate several technologies such as edge AI and an in-house built Ku Band transmitter in outer space. The team is currently working towards our Critical Design Review with stakeholders from the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) and the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS). They are building and testing several systems ranging from radio systems, antennas, FPGAs, PCBs and mechanical systems.

At the time of writing, the team is expecting to complete our Critical Design Review milestone in mid-November and entering the assembly integration and testing phase of the project for the upcoming run of CDE3301 with launch targeted for Feb 2028. This is not an easy project, but if you are up for the challenge, do join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to send a satellite to outer space.
