MSc (MOTI) student - Zhang Yuxiao

Zhang Yuxiao completed his undergraduate studies at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and completed the Master of Science in Management of Technology and Innovation programme from NUS as the Class of 2024.

Yuxiao shares some of the most memorable classes he had taken at NUS, “During my final semester at NUS, I took the course MT5007 which focuses on Management of Technological Innovation, a class that proved instrumental in my entrepreneurial journey in AI music technology. Professor Annapoornima not only endorsed my entrepreneurial vision but helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world business applications. Her guidance and encouragement were invaluable as I navigated the complexities of starting my own business, particularly in such a niche field.

Another course, MT5012, also left a deep impression. It focused on marketing technological products. Our team chose a company specializing in soil sensors and developed a unique "small and beautiful" marketing strategy. This experience, which included market analysis, pricing strategies, and content development, shaped my understanding of product marketing. More than anything, the encouragement of my group members during my first NUS presentation gave me the confidence to grow and push forward in an unfamiliar environment.

In 2021, Yuxiao launched his first startup focused on AI tools for the music industry, aimed at improving music production efficiency. With support from the MiraclePlus incubator, founded by Dr. Qi Lu (former CEO of Microsoft), his startup secured angel round funding. The entrepreneurial knowledge he gained from NUS's MOTI program was essential in building a strong foundation. By 2023, they had secured a second round of funding, allowing them to expand their vision of democratizing music production.

Additionally, Yuxiao’s experience of studying abroad inspired him to launch HAOTU International Education, a company dedicated to guiding Chinese students through their international study journeys. HAOTU has offices in both Beijing and Singapore and helps Singapore bring in more Chinese students and high-tech talent to study, visit, and exchange in Singapore. His team, composed of NUS and NTU alumni, has already helped hundreds of students achieve their academic goals abroad.

The MOTI program at NUS provided Yuxiao not only with the practical skills he needed to thrive as an entrepreneur but also with a supportive environment that encouraged personal and professional growth.
