It was a jubilant occasion for the NUS Mechanical Engineering (ME) Class of 2018, who received their degrees during the commencement ceremony held on 17 July 2018, at the NUS University Cultural Centre.
Presided by NUS Trustee Mr Phillip Tan and witnessed by various NUS management, faculty and departmental staff, the ceremony was attended by more than 460 Mechanical Engineering graduands and their family and friends.
Guest speaker Ms Wan Siew-Ping, an alumna from the NUS Mechanical Engineering Class of 1982, shared her experiences beyond NUS as an engineer, during which she had a few important messages for our new graduates – first, to always have an open mindset to embrace new experiences; second, life-long learning is a must, as there is always new knowledge to be gained (and which might also keep you excited about you’re doing!); and lastly, to be brave, but kind, have the courage to change or innovate, and always remember that engineers create new things, new industries and the new world.
The celebrations culminated in a reception hosted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where guests enjoyed a sumptuous lunch, took portraits and group photos at the photo booth, and mingled with our faculty staff.
Finally, we wish the class of 2018 all the best in their future endeavours, and do keep in touch!
