CHEW Chee Meng

Associate Professor

Dr. Chew received his B.Eng. (First Class Honours) and M.Eng. degrees from the National University of Singapore, as well as S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He is currently a research committee member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NUS.

Dr. Chew formed the department’s RoboCup team from scratch and served as its advisor from 2003 to 2011, leading the team to two first prizes in the adult-size humanoid league at RoboCup 2010. He was a founding member of the unmanned surface vehicle project and supervised the student team in the inaugural Maritime RobotX Challenge 2014, where the team was awarded a prize of SGD 7,000. From 2014 to 2019, he served as Lead Principal Investigator for the “Productivity Enhancement of Yard Operations” project under the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory, a five-year project funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) with a total grant exceeding SGD 6 million.

A senior member of IEEE, Dr. Chew has actively contributed to the local chapters of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. He also serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Humanoid Robotics.
