Dr Song Ziyou joins the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NUS, as an Assistant Professor in November 2021. He received his B.E. degree (with honours) and Ph.D. degree (with highest honours) in Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2011 and 2016, respectively. He worked as a Research Scientist at Tsinghua University from 2016-2017. From 2017 to 2019, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was also an Assistant Research Scientist/Lecturer from 2019 to 2020. Prior to joining NUS, he was a Battery Algorithm Engineer at Apple Inc., Cupertino, US.
Dr Song’s research interests lie in the areas of modelling, estimation, optimization, and control of energy storage (e.g., battery, supercapacitor, and flywheel) for electrified vehicles and renewable energy systems. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications including 40 journal articles. He has received several paper awards, including Applied Energy 2015-2016 Highly Cited Paper Award, Applied Energy Award for Most Cited Energy Article from China, NSK Outstanding Paper Award of Mechanical Engineering, and 2013 IEEE VPPC Best Student Paper Award.
