Each year, NUS Homecoming welcomes alumni back to reconnect with friends, revisit cherished moments, and continue conversations no matter where life has taken them.

It was especially wonderful to see CDE alumni with their families, introducing the next generation of potential innovators to our campus.

Our faculty, staff, and students were proud to showcase the exciting work happening today, bridging the legacy of our alumni with the future they helped build.

Highlights for the day this year included contributions from CDE:

  • Interactive demos from the student teams behind JellyBot and Calibur Robotics from the NUS Engineering Design and Innovation Centre.
  • Exclusive tour of the Satellite Technology and Research (STAR) Centre, giving families a glimpse into Singapore's cutting-edge space technology research.

A huge thank you to our alumni for making the journey back, and to everyone who made the day a resounding success.

"Seeing our alumni return is a powerful reminder of our enduring community. Their journey laid the foundation for the incredible innovation we see today, from our student-led robotics teams to our cutting-edge space research. Homecoming is more than a reunion; it’s a celebration of our shared past and a glimpse into the exciting future we are building together," shared Associate Professor Arthur Tay, CDE Vice Dean (Alumni Relations).

Operation Orion is one of the longest-running student-led overseas community involvement projects in NUS. Affiliated with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the initiative was founded in 2000 under the mentorship of Asst Prof Chew Soon Hoe and is currently guided by Assoc Prof Justin Yeoh.

Since its inaugural overseas project in Yangon, Myanmar, Operation Orion has grown into a flagship programme with a legacy spanning almost three decades. What began as a student volunteer initiative has evolved into a vibrant network of students, alumni and industry partners committed to creating meaningful and sustainable impact in communities across Southeast Asia.

Beyond its overseas projects, Operation Orion has fostered strong bonds among generations of participants. Current students and alumni regularly come together to share experiences, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration and service.

The latest annual alumni gathering was held on 10 April 2026 at NUS. The event brought together past and present members of the Operation Orion family, including Asst Prof Chew Soon Hoe, Assoc Prof Justin Yeoh and fellow colleagues. The evening provided an opportunity for alumni and students to reconnect, reflect on the project's journey, and discuss future initiatives to continue strengthening the Operation Orion community and its mission of service.
