MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN!
Dear students, alumni, colleagues, and partners of CDE,
NUS Commencement 2024 has just concluded.
This month, we shared our graduates' stories of their time here and spotlighted their many diverse achievements.
Our valedictorians shared their wishes for the future with inspiring messages to their classmates. Ryan Quah, Master of Architecture/Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) with Honours, encouraged them to “believe in our potential and embrace the journey that is yet to come. After all, we are the only architects of our own lives.” Biomedical Engineering valedictorian Rachel Reno Lim rallied her cohort with a call to “Let today be a testament to how much we can accomplish. I am excited to witness us flourish into researchers, innovators, engineers, entrepreneurs, leaders, and change-makers.”
We learnt of Jerome Teo Sze Yong, who graduated as a double-degree major in Electrical Engineering and Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), a national DanceSport athlete who, with his sister, represented TeamNUS and Singapore at the Southeast Asian Games.
We celebrated with Bryan Tan, BEng (Chemical Engineering) with Honours (Distinction), who had taken a less conventional route to NUS through ITE and polytechnic, winning numerous awards along the way, yet who always had time to give back as a student leader and ambassador.
Departments gave their students grand sendoffs with graduation parties for students and their loved ones. In their last semester here, students proudly showcased their projects at gradshows and exhibitions as a final exclamation point to their time here.
I'm always proud of our new graduates and wish them all the best wherever their path takes them. As career and personal developments move them further from their time here, student days may quickly become distant memories. I hope the ties they have made here with other students and faculty members continue to tether them to the CDE community. We will always welcome our alums back with open arms.
