Our technologies are shaping production and people-related ecosystems to become increasingly connected and autonomous – ensuring a scalable, sustainable future.
Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division provides solutions that use data from design and engineering, production and metrology to make manufacturing smarter.
Opportunity sought:
The energy Industry is in a huge transition towards green solutions and has entered a new complex era – pressure to de-carbonise not just itself but other sectors and at the same time balance the demand with existing resources. As Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence (HMI) builds new capabilities for the Energy sector, the project would help in understanding where to focus on.
HMI’s Design and Engineering (D&E) solutions (https://www.mscsoftware.com/en-indopacific/industry/energy) are well suited for use in the Energy sector. In particular its simulation solutions help to improve reliability, efficiency and safety of your products operating in the world’s toughest. Hexagon D&E software provides modeling and analysis solutions for the energy industry that accurately simulate complex mechanical systems in rugged service environments. Its tools are proven within the oil & gas, wind, solar and nuclear power segments to help design products that perform optimally and avoid costly field failure.
Based on the products and systems, the team’s challenge is to identify new opportunity areas in the Energy sector that answer the following questions:
Some of the questions to answer:
- Which energy forms are seeing increased manufacturing and where?
- What is the medium to long term market growth of each segment of Energy e.g. wind, oil and gas, nuclear, hydrogen, battery etc. What are the pain points that they face in production of the equipment needed in these industries that could be addressed by HMI’s Machine shop solutions and Metrology products?
- What is the global market size of manufacturing in these various segments and how it is expected to evolve over the next 10 years?
- Who are the top manufacturers in each segment and geographically mapping their supply chains?
- What are the new opportunities that Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence could address in the energy industry?
- Who would be relevant industry partners?
What are the potential new business models?

Develop Innovative A.I. Driven Solutions for the Circular Economy in the New Normal towards Society 5.0 with Explainable A.I., Grounded with Strong Ethics and Governance
NEC Asia Pacific (NEC APAC) is the regional headquarters for NEC Corporation (HQ: Japan) in the Asia Pacific region (South and Southeast Asia). A leading information and communications technology provider, NEC APAC provides innovative solutions and infrastructure to promote safety, security and enhance the quality of life for individuals and the community
AI allows us to tap into the 5th dimension, expanding our human experience which is primarily confined to the four dimensions of the 3-dimensional physical space and time. As it is very feasible that AI will transcend our human intelligence and capacity, it is important that we must ensure that we harness AI in the right way, with proper ethics and governance.
We live in exciting times where AI technologies have been accelerated by IOT, Big-Data, and 5G in a highly connected society in both the physical and virtual domains. At the same time, sustainable development will be the driving force towards a circular economy with a focus on societal well-being towards Society 5.0.
Hence it is of paramount importance that policy and business planners and solution developers keep their focus on solving real-life human-centred societal issues as we move towards the next normal.
In this brave new world, it is highly probable that AI will result in greater efficiency in the allocation of scarce resources, and greater effectiveness in producing better products and services. However, will AI result in greater efficacy, i.e. “the ability to produce a desired or intended result”? Hence, it is critical that AI is not only smart but is also wise, and it has the the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right; possessing discernment, judgment, or discretion.
Opportunity sought:
In particular NEC is looking for new innovative ways that it’s A.I., Biometrics and Big-Data solutions can be applied to help businesses and workplaces worldwide to transition to the new circular economy
What are the areas in businesses and workplaces that that AI and Biometrics technology can have impact in the transition to a circular? Any solution should be scalable and be able to work for Smart Cities and Smart Nation projects and needs to consider all aspects of data security and data privacy. How could it add further value to the organization? What further innovations need to happen to make them viable in these new areas. What are the potential business models?
Company representative:
Walter Lee, Evangelist, Head of Public Safety Consulting, Public Safety Centre of Excellence, NEC Asia Pacific

What is aluminosilicate glass:
Soda-lime glass is the most prevalent type of glass. They are also known as Soda-lime-silica glass. It is usually used for window panes and glass containers such as bottles and jars for beverages, food, and some commodity items. Soda-lime glass accounts for about 90% of manufactured glass.
Aluminosilicate glass is a type of glass that contains aluminum oxide, usually at levels between 20% and 40%. There are different types of aluminosilicate glass, and they depend on their chemical compositions, with a particular focus on the oxide composition.
Comparing to soda-lime glass, aluminosilicate glass is characterised by its exceptional resistance to high temperature and chemical exposure/degradation. Another notable property would be its high strength and scratch resistance.
Common thickness would be 0.4 mm to 2.0 mm. It is often chemically tempered to provide strength and enhance temperature resistance.
