Simple Savings

Sponsor: Malcolm Lee, CTO of Entartic

Entarctic aims to reduce energy consumption of industrial cold rooms, starting with freezers in the logistics space. The company has piloted the use of phase change material (PCM) technology for buffering of temperature within the warehouse, thereby reducing the overall cooling load needed to maintain the temperature. As a next step, the company is looking to controlling the HVAC settings in a frugal manner in order to better manage the generation of cooling load in the warehouse. This allows the company to reduce the energy consumption of these warehouses via a two-pronged approach. The Frugal Innovation team will need to figure out the various methods of energy reduction in this space as well as try to configure a viable solution that can be used in Industrial Cold Chain as well as other potential markets.

Methane Flux

Sponsor: Mohammad Irsyad – Product Lead of AgriG8

AgriG8 needs to determine methane (and carbon equivalents) emissions due to rice farming. This will channel carbon credit revenues from the Verified and Voluntary Carbon Markets to farmers around the region. To do this, it is important to measure Methane Flux from a field in a frugal manner so that a baseline of methane emissions outside of a planting season and an in-season monitoring so that we can determine the exact impact of implementing methane-reducing practices. The team will device a frugal and sustainable solution to achieve these goals.

Fitto-Gen

Sponsors: Dr Amit Cutillan and Oh Chin Lock

Sacropenia (loss of muscle mass) is a serious problem with the elderly. The market size and growth rate tracks with the aging population. However, there is no cheap and readily usable method to measure efforts such as targeted resistance exercise regimes to reduce the effects of Sarcopenia in the elderly both at home and in care facilities. This project will find an intelligent frugal and viable solution for this gap in the market as well as figure out how it fits within the clinical/health pathway for the elderly to adopt such a solution.
