Project List for Semester 2 AY2024/2025
SustEn
Sponsor: Navarun Atraya, Vishan Tejaas & Obinna Irrechukwu
Companies want to start with sustainability projects but have little understanding on how to begin. There is little or no fundamental information or knowledge sharing for industry specific environmental policies & regulations. The team will need to design a Frugal AI system that will crawl the web for any sustainability info from any country and in any language and be able to provide specific information to industry.
SensoSuit
Sponsor: Assoc. Prof. Raye Yeow & Suhail Raasith
Manual labour often leads to lower back strain and injuries due to insufficient ergonomic support that assists in lifting while preserving mobility. Current Exosuits lack the sensors that track posture and usage metrics. The team needs to study the concerns around the use of Exosuits & design an affordable sensor-equipped exosuit capable of tracking posture & usage metrics, enabling data-driven ergonomic interventions & injury prevention.
LifeSalt
Sponsor: Mr Hoong Cheong Hon (Verdura Health)
Bac Lieu’s salt mines in the southern part of Vietnam have been producing low quality table salt for many years with methods that are not sustainable. There is a need to study the methods for low carbon sustainable salt production as well as understand and develop a frugal process to produce a higher value low-energy salt (e.g. solid pharmaceutical-grade or gourmet food salt). This needs to include a finances needed for investment.
E-Waste EPR
Sponsor: Andrew Tay (KGS Pte Ltd)
Despite generating over 60 kilo tonnes of e-waste annually, recycling rates remain low in Singapore, leading to untapped resource recovery opportunities and environmental risks. The solution must align with the EPR framework by ensuring producers take responsibility for the collection and treatment of end-of-life products. The team needs to design a frugal proposal to manage the national e-waste recycling programme.
Nova
Sponsors: Dr David Chen, Dr Dayna Yong & Rubin Yong
Cataract affects about 80% of the elderly population. This needs a system level monitoring to manage the disease. The team will need to understand the landscape of the disease and figure out the unmet needs for the monitoring and care of patients. They will then have to get the system level requirements and design the NOVA system to meet those requirements while being financially viable.
