Prof Tan has over 35 years of experience in fund management, banking, engineering, entrepreneurship and training. He teaches venture funding for technology commercialization projects and entrepreneurial finance courses at the National University of Singapore. He was a former Executive Director of UOB Venture Management responsible for direct investments in China, USA and ASEAN. He co-founded and served as the CEO of 3V SourceOne Capital, a cross-Pacific venture capital firm. He had served as the Treasurer and Chairman of the Industry Development and Valuation Committee of the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.
Prof Tan had served for over 6 years as a member of the investment panel of Enterprise Singapore SEEDS Capital which provides funding for early-stage companies including projects in fintech, foodtech, agritech, edtech, green materials, energy transition and deep-tech projects. He was involved in retail electronic banking infrastructure projects while serving as the committee chair with the Association of Banks in Singapore and operation committee member of NETS. He had 5 years of experience in engineering, automation and digital communication system with Texas Instruments and Northern Telecom.
Prof Tan is an investment panel member of the Nanyang Technological University’s Strategic Research Innovation Fund and a Venture Advisor to Insignia Ventures Partners. He is a Director of AlphaTrio Capital, a regional venture capital fund focusing on ESG impact investing. He is a member of the Board of Governors of Hwa Chong Institution, Board of Directors of Singapore Chinese High School and the former Chairman of Hwa Chong International School in Singapore. He holds a M.Sc. (Industrial Eng.) and a B.Eng. (EE) (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore. He is an alumnus of the US Venture Capital Institute and the Institute of Banking & Finance, Singapore.
