01 Remote.ly

Remote.ly is a cross-platform application that enhances mobile device learning and usage for baby boomers. Deployable across current mobile operating systems, Remote.ly connects baby boomers to friends and family who have volunteered their assistance, giving these helpers control of the boomer’s devices over any connection for usage demonstrations. Steps and solutions are then recorded for sharing or future reference. In doing so, Remote.ly removes the need for impersonal technical support staff, enabling learning within each individual’s personal interface, effectively personalising and socialising the concept of instruction manuals and technical support.

02 Generative Design: Minimal Surfaces

An intensive exploration into generative design using Grasshopper 3D as a platform led to a family of products derived from the aesthetics of mathematical minimal surfaces. Shaped in a way such that stress is 100% evenly distributed, they possess mesmerizing forms despite being structurally extremely sound. The lamps, Gyro and Poid, apply this new formal language to effectively disperse light while obscuring the source, producing enchanting shadows and lending the inhabited space a thought-provoking presence.e

03 Hydratherm

Tailored specifically to meet the needs of National University Hospital’s endocrinology operating theatre, Hydratherm is a proposed solution for NUH’s dilemma regarding warming irrigation fluids. By deploying Hydratherm in operating theatres and improving upon current staff restocking procedures, NUH can ensure patients receive warm irrigation fluid constantly at less than 10% of the cost of implementing, using and maintaining conventional cassette fluid warmers, exemplary of how new products can work with minor changes in practice to bring about drastic positive impact.

04 Murmurs

A single sheet of aluminium is stamped with the most logical of tessellations to bestow upon it a fabric-like nature, whilst hidden circuitry falls from the knitted triangles to cast a murmur of reflection upon the facets, like stars glittering in the night sky. Easy to produce, install, remove and recycle, Murmurs Chandelier’s life cycle has been well-considered. Variable dimensions create a system that can span large spaces or cover private corners. It is a testament to how luxury is not an excuse for waste and frivolity, but can arise from honesty and function.

05 Toshiba SCRiBE

A LCD TV for emerging South-east Asian markets, SCRiBE is a result of exhaustive primary research across contextual households. As a response to the popularity of photography and media sharing, it features an integrated digital camera equipped with emotion recognition technology. When you laugh, cry, or jump in fright, SCRiBE snaps that golden moment and tags it with what you were watching, enhancing the value of oft-neglected family TV time. Its design lends a strong, friendly confidence to the living room console and makes family TV time less isolating and more interactive.
