Turn to Craft is a series of lamps created by melting layers of beads over a mould in an oven. As the woven sheet of beads softens, it encases the mould whilst individual beads fuse together. Although it is performed under controlled circumstances, the irregularities of the plastic material afford each outcome to be unique and different from any other that was made the same way. Turn to Craft is a new take on craft that combines handicrafts and industrial processes.
This stack of paper was handcrafted from wooden bleachers of the National Stadium with traditional paper making techniques.
Having fulfilled her duty of holding countless of the nation’s significant events, after retiring, what remains of the Stadium are memories. This work symbolises the metamorphosis of the Stadium as a concrete landscape to an ephemeral memory; not unlike the transformation of hard wooden planks to delicate paper.
