The ECE Student Leadership Workshop, held on 14 and 17 August 2024, brought together 20 student leaders for two days of insightful learning and collaboration. Hosted at SDE3’s Barrel Room, the workshop aimed to equip participants with leadership tools necessary to make a meaningful impact within the NUS ECE community.
Day 1: Self-Discovery and Leadership Dynamics
The workshop commenced on 14 August with a focus on self-awareness and leadership styles, introducing students to DISC profiling. Participants gained a deeper understanding of their own strengths and leadership preferences, as well as insights into how to work effectively with different personality types. The session was well-received, with one student commenting, “The DISC profiling activity was insightful and enjoyable. I gained a better understanding of how different personalities contribute to teamwork.”
The first day concluded with a networking dinner, giving participants the opportunity to build relationships with their peers, fostering an environment of mutual support and collaboration.
Day 2: Communication, Teamwork, and Practical Application
On 17 August, the workshop shifted focus to practical leadership skills, with a full day dedicated to mastering communication and teamwork. Through a series of group activities and challenges, students explored real-life scenarios that required them to apply their DISC profiles in collaborative problem-solving. This hands-on approach resonated with participants, as one remarked, “The workshop was a perfect balance of engaging content and practical exercises that made the learning experience fun and meaningful.”
The session also encouraged students to reflect on the importance of effective communication in leadership. One student noted, “I appreciated how the workshop emphasized communication strategies that are crucial for managing team dynamics in real-world settings.”
